Back to School Craft: Denim Locker Pockets

Here is a back to school craft for the older kiddos.  What mom isn’t looking for something to do with those worn out pair of jeans and what kid doesn’t want to do something to spruce up his or her locker and add a little bit of themselves to it?  These magnetic denim locker pockets are the solution!  Even better, this is a craft your kids can do all by themselves and really doesn’t require and prep work at all.  Thanks Thrifty Fun!

Here is what you need to make these:

  • old pair of jeans or shorts
  • scissors
  • fabric paint
  • iron on patches
  • buttons
  • craft glue
  • magnetic tape

Back To School Craft: Colored Pencil Jewelry

Okay, I will be the first to admit that there is a lot of prep work involved in this craft, but I think that it is totally worth it to watch the kids having so much fun making their own back to school jewelry.  Don’t let the words saw and drill scare you away.  It sounds way harder than it really is.  Thanks for the great idea Design Mom!

Here’s what you need to make these:

  • Colored Pencils
  • Junior hacksaw
  • Fine sandpaper
  • Drill and small drill bit
  • Thread (for the necklace)
  • Superglue (for the brooch and earrings)
  • Brooch back (for the brooch)

Fun with Kids: Snack boxes

There are so many different uses for those plastic school supply boxes you can get for super cheap right now (if you watch for sales, you should be able to get them for $.50!). Make and Takes is one of my favorite sites for inspiration on kid-friendly crafts and about a year ago, she posted about using school supply boxes to make snack boxes for your kids.

I don’t know about your kids, but when we get home in the afternoons, my kids are starving and have no problem raiding the pantry for snacks.  The problem is that then they don’t have any moderation and then they fill up on snacks and don’t want to eat dinner.

Snack boxes = problem solved!  I fill it with snacks at the beginning of the week and they know that they get one snack in the afternoons and that’s it!  Plus, they got to decorate their own snack boxes!

You can get the stickers at Dollar Tree, so this entire “craft” ends up being $1.50 or so per kid!

Back To School Craft: Crayon Wreath

This is a great craft to do now, while school supplies are so cheap.  I think this would be so fun for my daughter to make and give to her teacher on the first day of class.  This wreath would also be cute in a playroom or craft room as well.  Thanks Mom’s Party Cafe!

Here’s what you need to make this wreath:

  • 12″ embroidery hoop, or basketry hoop
  • 8″ embroidery hoop, or basketry hoop
  • box of 64 crayons (or 3 boxes of 24 count crayons)
  • ribbon
  • hot glue

Back To School Craft: Pretty Pencils

For us, school is only 4 weeks away and my kids are chomping at the bit to go.  I’m lucky, my kids are young and still think school is fun.  We went shopping for school supplies today and my daughter was so excited you seriouly would have thought I had taken her to Disneyworld.  I want to keep that momentum going throughout the month of August so I thought I would try to find some back to school related crafts to do with the girls.  This is the first one I think we are going to tackle.  These pencils are a cute way to personalize a pack of inexpensive pencils.  My daughter will be in heaven just picking out the cute paper.  I think we might even write on some of the paper before we seal it on, just to make it even more their own.  Thanks Omiyage Blogs!

  • pencils, preferably round
  • paper of your choice
  • Mod Podge (we used Matte)
  • a craft paintbrush
