Deals for the week of 8/10

I just thought I’d post links to recap some of the “hot deals” that are happening this week:

CVS
At CVS, you can get Alavert, Lamisil/Lamisilk, Huggies (and other baby products), Energizer batteries, and candy. You can find more information on this post:

**You might want to check to make sure your store will accept printable coupons first**

HOLLYWOOD VIDEO
Free Blu Ray rentals (one at a time) for the month fo August and $2.99 regular DVD rentals. This definitely is working in the Houston area, but it may be in select markets, so you may want to call your store first.

KROGER
Deals for the Texas/Louisiana area through Tuesday (8/12):

Walgreens deal on Kellogg’s snacks – ends today

There is a glitch that is causing double Register Rewards (RR) to be printed for the Kellogg’s snacks. This is confirmed to be working on the following products:

Items priced 4/$10:
*Special K bars
*Nutrigrain snack bars
*Pecan Sandies shortbread cookies

Items priced 5/$10:
*Pop Tarts
*Rice Krispie treats

The cheapest way to do this is to buy five of the 5/$10 items. (It’s even better if you have the Kellogg’s coupons from last Sunday’s paper).

You could also do this:
Buy six of the “snack” items listed above (use coupons from last Sunday’s paper if you have them).

In the same transaction, buy 4 of the following cereals:
12-20oz Raisin Bran, Smart Start, Fruit Loops, Corn Pops, Special K or Frosted Flakes
(there were also coupons for these in Sunday’s paper)

You would pay $22 if you didn’t have the coupons from the Sunday paper, and you should get 3 $5 RR (it will be 2 if they have fixed the glitch, but it has been reported by others that it is still working this morning). You can also send in for the $10 Kelloggs mail in rebate. So, after the RR and the mail in rebate, it would be like you made $3 buying these items (it will be even more if you have coupons).

Free or cheap DVD rentals at Hollywood Video

I’m not sure if this is region specific but in the Houston, TX area, Blu Ray rentals are FREE for the month of August. You can check out one at a time.

Regular DVD rentals are $2.99/each. They are advertising it as a “cheap” date night. Since my husband and I never go out anyway, it works for us!

If you are not in this area, you may want to call your store first to see if they are participating in this promotion.

If you love Tide…not a bad deal

I almost missed this because we’ve been out of town and I’ve been busy getting ready to go back to work! You have to hurry if you want to do this deal because the sale ends tomorrow.

CVS has Tide on sale for $4.97 this week. If you buy two plus a small item (filler), and use the $2/10 CVS coupon and two of the $1 off coupons from the P&G insert that was in the paper on Sunday, you end up getting two bottles of Tide for $5.94 (or $2.97/each). That’s not a bad deal if you like Tide!

I had never used Tide before I discovered CVS and now it’s our favorite detergent!

While you’re there getting your Tide, you can also get some Dawn dish detergent (it would actually be a GREAT filler for your Tide deal). It is on sale for .88 and there was a coupon for .50/1 in the Sunday paper, so it’s .33/each.

The other CVS deals for this week are in this thread here:

WALGREENS – Axe body wash & movie cash – fun while it lasted!

I posted last week about the deal where you buy 4 trial sized Axe body wash and get 2 free movie tickets. It was fun while it lasted, but it looks like this promotion is no longer working (or like the registers have been programmed to no longer generate the movie tickets when you buy the trial sized body washes). (I’m still not quite sure why *I* got so excited about this deal considering how often my husband and I have even been out on a date or to the movies in the last 4 years since the kids came along, but I’m optimistic we can start soon, especially if we can make them “cheap” dates!)

In the ad that begins on Sunday (8/10), they do have Axe full sized body products on sale for $3.99 and they have the promotion listed as “Buy 3 products, get 1 movie ticket” and “Buy 4 products, get 2 movie tickets.” Not a bad deal if you LIKE the Axe body products and either way, depending on how much movie tickets are where you live (they are $8.75 here and $9 on weekends – OUCH!), it is still cheaper than buying the movie tickets. I figure that my husband won’t mind having some “manly” body wash for a change!

There is still some speculation as to whether or not the “deal” (with trial sized washes) will begin working again on 8/10 when the advertised promotion starts. Only time will tell (and of course I’ll post an update when I find out!).
