I know what you’re thinking…meatloaf? Really? Give this one a chance, though! My entire family (including my two kids who are picky eaters) LOVES this recipe! I got this recipe for “Melt in Your Mouth Meatloaf” a few years ago from Allrecipes.com – it’s so easy to make!
Ingredients:
2 eggs
3/4 c. milk (we use skim)
2/3 c. seasoned bread crumbs
2 tsp dried, minced onion
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp rubbed sage
1 1/2 pounds ground beef (we always make this with ground turkey instead and it’s yummy!)
1/4 c. ketchup
2 T brown sugar
1 tsp ground mustard
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Directions
1. In a large bowl, combine the first six ingredients. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well (mixture will be moist.) Shape into a round loaf; place in a 5-qt. slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or until a meat thermometer reads 160 degrees F.
2. In a small bowl, whisk the ketchup, brown sugar, mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Spoon over the meat loaf. Cook 15 minutes longer or until heated through. Let stand for 10-15 minutes before cutting.
NOTE: I fold two pieces of aluminum foil in half and criss-cross them in the slow cooker (hanging over the sides) so that the meatloaf doesn’t stick to the sides of the slow cooker and it’s easy to get out because you just pull up on the pieces of foil and lift it out. I was hoping to post a picture to show you, but my pictures came out too dark!

DELICIOUS!!
I would have never thought to make meatloaf in the crockpot but this is fail proof delicious meatloaf! Yummy.
I only have a 4-quart slow cooker. How do I adjust the recipe, or would it fit? Thanks.
It will fit just fine in a 4 quart! I actually have made it in my 3 quart without any problems. I have three slow cookers – all different sizes!
This looks super yummy, and looks so easy! I’m going to try this out this week, thanks!
I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!!
I actually have a question…. I have a very large family I usually make between 3 to 5 lbs of hamburger could i double this recipe?????
Depending on how big your family is, you might want to triple it! I make it for my family of 4 and we never have leftovers! I’m guessing you would need a 6-7 quart slow cooker, as well. (I use our 2.5-3 quart one for this recipe usually)
Tried this recipe yesterday. Loved it! And pretty easy too.
So glad you enjoyed it Diane! It’s one of our favorites!
So you don’t brown the hamburger?
Barbara – no because it cooks in the slow cooker all day!
What is the serving size on this recipe
Jackie – I feed my family of 4 with it and we never have leftovers.
Has anyone tried making this in the oven? Seems like you could but just wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
The best meatloaf i have ever made! I used ground turkey also. Will definitely make this again:)
So glad you enjoyed it Missy!
I have a round 4qt slow cooker. Would this fit?
Heather it should fit fine. I usually use my 2.5 quart one.
I am going to try this next time cooking it in the slow cooker this is the only difference with mine and the recipe. This way I don’t have to heat up the oven.
Tried this and it was enjoyed by hubby. I added some more things to the recipe that we like. The aluminum foil trick works great. Making it for the third time today.
So glad you enjoyed it Nancy! I would love to hear what things you added, too!
Made with beef and the family thoroughly enjoyed. Trying it with turkey. One question: Can this be made on high if …say….one forgot it was a slow cooker meatloaf and still wanted to make it in time for dinner?
Teri Jo – I am sure it could be. I have never tried it, though.
could I bake this in the oven? If so, for how long?
I made this in the slow cooker and it’s soo good. My husband is asking to have it tonight!! But I would need to cook in the oven! Let me know your thoughts!!
Thanks!!
Janis – I would think you could cook it in the oven, I’ve just never tried it. Most standard meatloaf recipes are 350 degrees for one hour.
Just want to make sure I’m ready right. Do not add the delicious ketchup mixture until after the meatloaf has cooked? Is that correct? 15mins before serving?
Lindsey I have tried adding it before that and it’s just the same. It’s much better if you add it at the end.
HI, YES IT CAN BE COOKED IN THE OVEN. I COOK IT FOR 1 HOUR AND 15 MINUTES AT 375 DEGREES. IT TURNS OUT GREAT. I DON’T MUCH CARE FOR IT WHEN COOKED IN A CROCK POT. ALSO I DON’T PUT SAGE IN MINE AND I USE DICED REGULAR ONION. I PUT HALF OF THE TOP DRESSING ON, THEN IN 30 MINUTES, I PUT THE LAST OF IT ON. THIS IS A WONDERFUL RECIPE –THE BEST FOR MEATLOAFS.
Can this be frozen ahead of time. If so, what are directions for cooking, Do you thaw it first or just put it straight from the freezer into the crockpot?
You should be able to freeze it first, but I would defrost before placing in the crockpot
I read another recipe where she freezes it and then cooks it from frozen in the crockpot. She said she cooks it for 8-10 hrs on low.
Thanks Lynn!
I have made a meatloaf like this before and when it Cooks it sits in its grease. Did you put this on something ?
I usually use ground turkey or 93/7 ground beef, so I’ve never had the problem with the grease, but I also fold two pieces of foil in half and criss cross them along the bottom to prevent it from sticking, so maybe that holds the grease?
Trying this one today! Used beef and ground pork as well.
