About three years ago, I clicked on a link to a video that was posted on a message board that I belong to. The link directed me to a video that Kyle David Miller’s parents created to educate people about the need to keep your children in a five point harnessed seat for as long as possible. My daughter was almost three the first time I viewed that video, which was the age that Kyle was when he was killed in a tragic car accident.
As first time parents, it seemed that three was the magical age when everyone was moving their kids to booster seats and we had planned to do the same….until I watched that video. At that point, I made the decision to keep my kids in a harnessed seat as long as possible. My daughter, who is almost 6 now is still in a harnessed seat.
Kyle’s parents created the Kyle David Miller Foundation to educate the public about seat belt failure and the need for car seat safety and they also provide safe car seats to those who could not otherwise afford them.
They are currently holding two separate raffles (through January 31, 2010). A ticket for either raffle is $10.
The “older child” raffle is for the following:
* Sunshine Kids Radian XTSL car seat – top of the line seat (retails for $299)
* Car Seat Poncho – size medium
* $100 gift certificate to Hip Monkey
The “infant” raffle is for the following:
*Britax Travel System in Red Mill (includes car seat, base and stroller in matching fabric) – the retail value is over $500!
*A baby sling from Hip Monkey – of your choice
*A Pacimal of your choice from Hip Monkey
My son is quickly outgrowing his current seat, so I entered the “older child” raffle. Even if I don’t win, I think this is a great cause!
You can view the video Kyle’s parents put together here (make sure you have some tissues handy). You can enter the raffle here. There is also an article about the family and the Kyle David Miller Foundation here.
YAY! Thank you so much!
