More Savings Monday: Get $50 for Opening an ING Electric Orange account

I have been a fan of ING for years. Shortly before my oldest daughter was born, they were offering a $50 bonus if you created an account. It sounded like a great way to start a savings account for a new baby. Both of my kids now have savings accounts there and it’s where I keep all of our “sinking funds” (escrow, vacation, auto repairs, clothing budget, Christmas fund, etc.).

I love it because the interest rate is usually higher than regular banks. If you’re not familiar with ING, it’s basically an online bank. You link your accounts to your checking account at an actual bank so that you can transfer money back and forth.

They started offering checking accounts about a year ago. They are now offering a $50 bonus if you open an “Electric Orange” checking account, activate the ATM/debit/Mastercard associated with the account, and make 3 purchases using the card in the first 45 days. This is great news for me because I keep our Christmas fund there anyway. So, I transferred our Christmas fund money to the checking account and I can now use the debit card to pay for my purchases! Then, I’ll get $50 to start out my Christmas fund for next year 🙂 I will not be using this as our primary checking account, but the debit Mastercard will make it easy to access money from various accounts when I need to pay for things.

To get the details on this promotion, click here:
http://www.ingdirect.com/electric50/

Here’s the breakdown:

  1. Click ‘Apply Now’
  2. Open your Electric Orange
  3. Activate your Electric Orange MasterCard® Debit Card
  4. Use your Electric Orange Card to make at least 3 signature-based purchases in the first 45 days after your account has been opened
  5. Your $50 bonus will be automatically deposited into your Electric Orange 50 days after your account has been opened

If you’re not familiar with ING and have questions, click here:
https://secure.ingdirect.com/myaccount/StaticContent.html?start=https://home.ingdirect.com/faqs/faqs.asp?nf=false&link=6

If you’re new to ING and want to open a savings account, you can also receive a $25 bonus if you are referred by a current member and open the account with an initial balance of $250 (If you’d like a referral, send me an e-mail and I will send you one….my e-mail address is in the upper left hand corner of the blog).

Target deals!

I finally looked at the Target ad. If you’re looking to stock up on diapers, here’s a deal:

*Buy 3 jumbo packs of Pampers OR Huggies, get a $5 Target gift card. The jumbo packs are priced at $9.99. If you’ve done the Glade deal, you may have a $5 gift card you can use toward this.

There were $1.50/1 Pampers coupons in the 11/2 P&G insert
There are also $1/1 Pampers blinkies in some stores

If you have 3 $1.50/1 Pampers coupons, here’s what the breakdown looks like:
3 packages – $29.97
Use 3 $1.50/1 coupons = $25.47
Use $5 Target card if you have it = $20.47 for 3 packages of Pampers (it’s like getting one package for free!)

You can roll your gift card and do the deal again if you have enough coupons.

I will be doing this:
Buy 1 Huggies and 2 Pull-Ups

Use $2/1 Huggies coupon (I got this from a Kroger mailer, but it’s a manufacturer’s coupon, so I can use it there – YEAH!)
Use 2 $2/1 Pull-Ups coupons (from a Huggies Home mailer)
Use $5 Target card from the Glade deal
Total = $18.97
(Plus, I will send in my receipts for the rebate from Caregivers, so when I get that back, it will be like I paid $15.97 for three packages of diapers!)

Upcoming diaper deal alert: CVS will have a Huggies ECB deal the week of 12/7 – spend $25, get a $5 ECB

*Preschool games are on sale for $4 this week. The following games are part of this sale: Memory, Cootie, The Ladybug game, Chutes and Ladders, Polar Bear ABC, Let’s Go Fishing, and Candyland

I have a lot of ECBs, so if I’m able to put together just one scenario and have enough ECBs to do it and come out with basically what I’ve spent, I do it and call it good. If you don’t have a lot of ECBs, buy one thing and then “roll” the ECB for that into the next item (or items) you want.

TIP: Find out if your CVS store accepts expired ECBs/CRTs. Mine will take them up to a month after the expiration date, so I always hang on to all of my CRTs until they are at least a month past the expiration date.

NOTES: My CVS stores turn the deals on early (Saturday evening). I went last night and the ECBs did not print for the Maybelline or the Right Guard. Hopefully they will fix these soon. The ad says that the limit on the contact solution is limit 1, but it has been reported that it is actually limit 5! This will be free after ECBs as part of the December monthly deals and there is some talk that they may have activated this deal early.

**Make sure you scan your card if you have the scanners that print coupons in your stores. I have gotten a $10/50 CRT on both of my cards that I am saving for the Thanksgiving day sale!
