HEB Reading Rocks 2012 Summer Reading Program + $20 HEB gift card giveaway!

One of my favorite things about summer is being able to participate in summer reading programs with my kids.  We have been doing this for several years now and one of our favorite summer reading programs is the HEB Summer Reading Program!  When your kids read 10 books this summer, they can get their own HEB Reading Rocks t-shirt!

HEB was kind enough to send my kids a summer reading package including all of the items pictured above.  My son quickly claimed the t-shirt (which of course led to plenty of drama from my daughter!).  I’ve loved reading the books they sent to my kids and hearing my daughter read them to her younger brother!  The bag has come in handy for our road trips this summer!

Read 10 books and submit your form by October 1, 2012, and your child can get their own t-shirt!  If your child is too young to read books on their own, you can read to them!

NOTE:  This program is only available to residents of Texas.

GIVEAWAY: 4th of July Recipe Hop and $60 Amazon Gift Card giveaway!

I love 4th of July and all of the yummy food is one of my favorite things about the 4th of July!  To celebrate 4th of July, I’ve teamed up with some other awesome bloggers to bring you this 4th of July Blogger Picnic Recipe Hop and Giveaway!  It starts today, 6/29/12 at 10 a.m. EST and ends on 7/6 at midnight EST.

Please check out all of our yummy recipes!  Here’s some that I’ve been making for 4th of July every year for about 3 years now!  I got this recipe from my friend Marci’s baby shower.  It’s easy to make and we absolutely LOVE it!

Chicken Spinach Bow Tie Pasta Salad

Ingredients:

Baby spinach (I usually use one small bag)
Grilled chicken (2-3 pieces, diced)
Bow tie pasta (I use 1/2 to one full 16 oz box depending on how much I’m making)
Pesto (I’m a cheater and buy pre-made)
Feta cheese
Toffee glazed almond accents
Diced tomatoes

Create the dressing by mixing equal parts of Italian dressing and Caesar dressing.  I have used low fat versions of both and it still tastes great!  Once you’ve made the dressing, mix everything together and serve.

My family absolutely LOVES Jason’s Deli!  For me, it’s a toss up between their fabulous salad bar (on those days when I actually decide I want to be “good”), their broccoli cheese soup (on those days when I’m not being so good), and their Beefeater.  I love being able to get the “Manager’s Special” so I can have a bit of the best of both worlds!  My kids love being able to create their own sandwiches and love the free ice cream they get at the end even more!
